Warren Spiers completed a graduate apprenticeship with Cincinnati Milacron, a machine tool builder in Birmingham, in 2001 where he learnt about machine design, manufacture and assembly. He then briefly left the industry to complete a graduate teaching position in 2005 and achieved a Qualified Teacher Status teaching at secondary comprehensive schools within Birmingham.
Warren returned to the industry in 2007 with Castell (trap key interlocking), Safety Systems technologies, and Laidler and TUV PS SUD.
In 2011, Warren chose to fulfil his own vision of an enlightened approach to developing machine safety competence and the provision of expert services. Spiers Engineering Safety was established where the the vision included utilising technology to improve PUWER compliance, Certification, and furthermore, the quality of the records of critical thinking, decision making, and the records held to demonstrate them.
This resulted in better outcomes, specifically; improving progress toward safety objectives, improved confidence to adapt and develop to meet business needs knowing that the evidence of good design was there, improved decision-making as competency-based accountability reduced the risk profile to the business and strategic decision-makers, improved evidence of due diligence as a mitigating factor in the event of enforcement post-incident improving business continuity.
Spiers Engineering Safety achieves this through the use of well-thought-out processes based on new working models for old problems. Technology is used to improve efficiency, increase data quality and visualisation and increase visibility and avoid loss of records over time.
Spiers Engineering Safety are an independent and impartial provider of expert services in industrial safety, specifically PUWER and Certification for industrial machines. Training courses have been developed to provide a pathway for those looking to develop competency in our area of expertise, including the only dedicated qualification in PUWER inspection of industrial machines:
